Fans are outraged at the sudden exit of singer Carmen Smith from Nine's hit show the Voice.
In an article on the show's official website it states "Carmen has a significant role in the new music video from Guy Sebastian and as such would be deemed to have an unfair advantage as the show moves into the public voting stage as the video is on current release and highly visible."
Followers of the show have taken to social media sites to vent their anger at what they see as a double standard, with claims that other performers have equally significant exposure through a variety of channels.
Rachel Leahcar is the face of a campaign for the vision impaired while others including Guy Sebastian's brother, Chris, already have their own music releases and videos.
Other fans are claiming a conspiracy theory that Carmen was dumped because of Guy Sebastian's role with rival program X-Factor on the Seven Network.
Former contestant Glenn Whitehall took to twitter to call for Carmen's return.
"I think people with powers should be using them to get @CarmenSmithAU back on the show- was looking forward to seeing her live."
Thus far Carmen's only statement has has come as part of the official release.
"It saddens me that I am leaving The Voice earlier much earlier than I had hoped. However, I've loved every minute of it and respect the decision that has been made by Joel and his team. I've sung on Guy's albums and been part of his band for many years so I'm thrilled to be in the clip and am looking forward to getting back to work and also working on my solo career".
Both Carmen's mentor Joel Madden and Guy Sebastian are yet to comment on the controversial decision.
