the magpies should be saved by the votes of the other sanfl clubs and keep them in the competition,

this episode shows the real leadership potential in this state. SA cant even decide to get a serious stadium happening without it being a vote maker for polititians! We all know that Port Adelaide have run their race and now you know what it feels like when such teams as The Swans and Fitzroy fans felt. Its a shame, but commercial reality is tough on the weaker clubs.

I am an SA footy supporter with a bias towards the Crows and Centrals.

That said I don't want to see any team fold.

Who really cares about the port magpies, let them die or get off their arse and fight to survive like Sturt & Nth Adelaide did, or merge like woodville & West Torrens. Stop giving them and the power charity to survive, instead direct this money to the metro & country leagues who fight for their survival every year.

I don't really support any team either in the SANFL or AFL. I don't go to games and I don't own any club memorabilia etc. I follow The Crows, but don't really care when they lose. My son supports (member) Carlton, so when they are playing I follow them.
Having established my allegiance, I would like to say that it would be a great pity if the Magpies were to fold. There would be more justice if Power were to fold as it is because of their existence that the Magpies are floundering. The Magpies have a great and honourable tradition and record in South Australia. The Power have already been handed millions on a plate. Anyway - that's my opinion!

sorry jd ,i dont agree mate,no need for either team to fold, power are a part of the afl, cant have a 15 team comp in the big leauge, and the magpies are the legends of the s.a.n.f.l.its all to hard to work out?

Since it's obvious you are a Port supporter it's no surprise that you would think that way, and I respect your defense of your club.
Let's hope that they can both come up with a business plan which will ensure the survival of both.
I fear that will not happen, and it seems to me that there is too much bad blood between Port and other clubs to expect that they wil gain any sympathy from them

radiobuff - if the power fold the AFL will survive with 15 teams, they did it before and the Gold Coast arrive in 2011, with West Sydney to follow, then possibly a team from Tas.And JD, how can you trust the power with a business model, when their original one to enter the AFL was full of lies, and the current one to merge with the magpies has already been changed twice.

Actually i can say i have been a supporter of port magpies when things were real rough.

It wasn't much it was more the thought that counted.

When the power jumped the gun with the licensing i was devastated if only they listened to me i said !

Nah kidding i could only wish that were the case.

Not having a go but i guess it didn't help things.

From that point forward i was in two worlds as others no doubt are to.

I stayed loyal though because i have history there myself i grewup there and that still means something to me i played mini league footy in the
area (i was woefull) but because our team was facing lack of numbers big hello to RG our coach of the time who made it to local politics i see :-)

Basicly i was drafted lol but we definately had a sense of pride it was probably a good thing that the other half of the port sides had a team which
was like it's adult counterparts of the time.

Port Adelaide for me is my early years in life
the street i lived in was a shared border with Port Adelaide.

I now live in no mans land where crows and port people are 50/50 almost.

Frightening ! I'm surrounded by crows waiting to pick my bones like some sort of rd kill.

The Power probably was a bit of a bold claim
i must admit but the crows seriously how much thought went into that?

About as much thought as the upgrade of wembly sorry AAMI

I do agree with you JD. It would be a real shame for Port Adelaide to fold. They do indeed have a long and proud history, whereas the Power are mere fledglings.

Hey guys! I too would defend the team I love and support, but when its so real that they cant pay their way in the big league, you must start to realise that its all going to fail sooner or later unless a genuine white knight comes into the organisation. So far the people of Adelaide have not put their hands in their pockets deep enough to keep the club(s) functioning profitably. My prediction is that Port will have to merge of die and Power will have to get serious or be merged with an AFL Club that plays here and in Tassie. This seems to be the only way the club will survive in the big world of AFL. Dont worry all you Vic knockers out there...they have plans to reduce the Victorian teams by way of mergers in the next 4-5 seasons as well, so dont keep blaming Victoria for your woes. After all, the best comp in the land was always in Victoria and the game started there so who are we in SA to give them grief.

Lets hope all things work out and we have a vibrant Magpies in the SANFL for many years to come. It will be a sad day in the history of the SANFL if the Magpies were to fold and disappear forever. Go the mighty Magpies!

To step over them or step on them?

Really I believe the problem is with those that claim to be Port Supporters, they talk about what a great club it is with all it's "history"...
It seems to me that they are mainly "band wagon jumpers" or "fair weather supporters" as they are there while the team is successfull on the field, but as soon as they dont make the finals, they all dissolve into thin air...
Come on Port supporters, buy a membership or a T-shirt and save your club, if all Port supporters just did a little each, it would help the club a lot....

Thanks JB we've done it again :-)

I'm so sorry i just couldn't resist i noticed a few of my posts elsewhere never made it but upon reflection it's a good thing in most cases.

I try keep it legal and decent.

Ooo here i am chattin farout i'm a hypacrit lol.

Back on topic actually i can afford to help port
out not in a big way but yeh i'll put my money were my mouth is might actually become a member that way they get the headcount to.

It's pity they can't expand and upgrade Alberton
but the sites not that viable i spose due to many reasons main one being inconvenience to locals.

It's a nice area though with all the trees.

Whilst the crows / power & sanfl have footy park
thank you those who objected to using the name AAMI ;-) very valid point.

Thing is if the masses no longer go to FP
what's going to fill the void? as most of the big advertisers will high tail it or re negotiate pricing
due to lower headcount.

Bah going right of topic the Port teams should just
slum it for a while back at Alberton if they see it that way buildup the kitty and build something
worthy wherever whenever that mayy beeeeeee.

Elvis has renovated the building !

My wife and I are Magpies members. We enjoy going to the local league games. We are also Power supporters but rarely go to AFL games as we just don't get the same enjoyment as watching the locals live. I think the black and whites should be saved as they have been around since Noah was a lad. If the SANFL clubs vote for them to fold my wife and I and probably a couple of thousand other SANFL supporters wont follow another local club and wont go to local games in the future. A pretty grim outcome for the SANFL I would think.

If the magpies are to survive in the SANFL, they should be given the same support, Sturt, North & Norwood were given and no more, that is 60% of the next years allocation from the SANFL, and if they then do not get off their backside to generate support from their so called fans then, they disappear, one charity port club is enough for the rest of the state to carry year after year.

As a member of both the Power & North may I say this exercise is surely more about giving the Power a chance to be a financilaly succesful club, contributing to the success of the SANFL.

A vote against the merger plan could see Magpie supporters simply disappearing, blaming the Power for teh demise of their (Magpie) club.

This in turn may mean the SANFL having to prop the Power up o n an ongoing basis.

Delegates (including my North boys) think SANFL and what this means for them. If you dont and the Magpies fall over the chances of the Power falling over increase and that surely IS NOT GOOD for SANFL footy.

Come on guys lets correct the mistakes of the past, remembering who created this problem in the first place.

To my knowledge the Crows have never bank rolled Port Magpies if they did we'd never hear the end of it ;-)

Was just going through the posts isn't it marvelous how we were all notified of the rally at footy park?

Why didn't they let more people know?

Most of us knocking of from work or coming home early etc may have been able to attend If we knew in advance.

To bloody hot in any case farout talk about crap timing i would go down there now if it wasn't so dam hot so anyone watching the news the headcount there is only a fraction of what really exists a lot of us had no knowledge of this rally.

Gee thats what i get for not being a member yet
i'm not on the inner lol.

Sorry people i have failed you in my unoffical capacity as an advisor in this case i could only do so wayyyyy after the fact ;-)

as a witness to several Melbourne clubs (with great history) being merged, it is not an easy time for the fans. My opinion from an interstate perspective is really basic, but one that the Directors and Management of the club must be dealing with also. It really is a commercial reality, and at the days end its about paid up bums on seats. I see the benefit to a merge with the Power being a great new chapter for both clubs and one that will galvanize the club. It will have a proper reserves team like most other clubs do in the AFL. I used to enjoy the days of going to the G and Princes Park and watching a lead in game before the main feature. Was great to see the young stars play and step up to the next level. Let the clubs merge and become a united entity for the good of both the fans and the club itself. there will be a definite increase in fan base for the Power which is much needed.

Yep good points raised by all.

Especially about merging the two as there has always been tension between them.

As was stated they have a 3 year cooling of period if they don't want the Power onboard seeya new sponsors or whatever.

I think a lot of people are worried that if the Power Bankroll the Port Magpies that they'd be forever indebted and have others calling the shots which may go against the grain.

I think as long as they stay as is pretty much things should be fine sure the financial side will probably really need some hard work as stated
but i too think it will be for the best as currently
things have just been run into the ground time and time again.

The cost of everything going up ten fold over the years hasn't helped no doubt to many clubs in the same boat.

Unless Port Magpies can get some huge sponsors onboard the Power it would seem are the only current feasable hope ?

Case of see what happens once again.
