markcagg, Yesterday you suggested that people who are opposed to the filter are "Perverts", there must be a lot of perverts around. Actually I find porn rather boring.
A recent survey shows that 51.5% of Australian net user strongly oppose the plan, while only 2.9% strongly support it.
I have three kids who use the internet regularly, I monitor their online activity after all this is the "Parents" responsibility.
If I wanted an internet filter it would a PC Customizable based one.
I don't want my internet slowed any further by having an ineffective filter forced upon me.

How far will the list go, now and in future? Will it filter out material on sexual health, drug use, or terrorism? Euthanasia and anorexia have been touted by Government MPs as topics worthy of filtering.

The protection for children is minor at best, an illusion at worst. The clean-feed does nothing to protect children from real threats like cyber-bullying, online sexual predators, viruses, or the theft of personal information. It may provide a false sense of security to parents, reducing effective monitoring of their children's online activities.

The Government should be promoting the use of free customizable PC based filters.
One size doesn't fit all. A single filter list can't deliver results that are appropriate for all parents, teens and children, with no way to customize the filter for your household.

markcagg, I have stated my reasons for opposing this so called Clean Feed filter,
try to make an effort to stay on the topic, otherwise you just appear to be rather clueless!

Whoflungdung question for you simple yes or no will surffice - do you think child porn and beastiality should be banned from the internet YES or NO

Yes, do you realize that child porn websites are already banned?, police setup fake ones occasionally to catch pedophiles.
If pedophiles want to share child porn they would probability do it via peer to peer to avoid the filter.
You wont see any child porn websites, chat-rooms are where the pedophiles lurk.

"The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation." - Adolf Hitler.

Please NO. If you bring your kids up to respect themselves and others around them, then you dont have a problem. It all starts from home, and as a society of working parents, and the world of the internet at home, we have this problem. Dont limit the access for those who use it as it should be used.

markcagg: Your views are idiotic. The internet should not be censored.
I have kids and I monitor their internet. Just because you are too lazy, why should I my internet access be monitored/blocked.

whoFlungdung (as opposed to markcagg calling you whoFlungdugg earlier) your username is cool. Keep being awesome!

It's all because lazy parents want the internet to babysit their children like they use the TV now...

We don't need a filter to be like Communist China...

Come on parents, please be responsible and supervise your children while on the internet...

For all you parents who state you watch your kids 100% of the time WRONG - its impossible. So how does a good parent control their kids viewing when they are around a persons house who has lazy parents (as you call them). What is wrong with ISP's having a filter and allowing people to have it disconnected if they choose for their account I fail to see what the problem is wouldnt it be wise to ensure those kids are protedted from so called lazy parents I fail to see the objection to this.

As long as it's an opt in basis, there shouldn't be a problem. As long as the question is asked at the time you sign up with your ISP, by form submittal, paper or online or asked by a sales rep, you have got a choice then.
We don't need to be baby sat by default.
Our speeds are slow enough as they are here in Oz, we don't need another pipe to truncate through.

I remember when you have kids they follow by example. What is the biggist thing besides the internet is watching movies. How many movies are there that show people been smashed up and walk away?
I wonder if the movies and TV have a lot to answer for before we look at the net.
If we actually were real about censorship. They should show the accidents in a trailer and what the real result of what that car did to that person.
I think a lot of poeple think that 2 many people watch TV, Movies and yes the internet and think if you can do it there why not try it on the roads.
the first time blood was seen bleeding on the screen was The Wild Bunch i think in the 70's, and now look how people love to go to the movies and don't think much of the blood and gore. Now look at our streets in Hinley Street with fighting and car racing.
They watch on TV and the movies the games they play on the net and at home are fighting.
Its all about the young brain taking on what they see then follow by example.
But it will probably never work.
Look at the politicians in govt, they think it might be fun at how they run the debate with their stupid calling out etc. Kids watch it at school on TV or go there as a class.
Maybe the real example should come from where examples start, the family.

Perhaps you mis-interpreted me - it does happen sometimes.
I tried clicking on the play button and got a message that it was disabled - the reason for my comment.

Child porn etc. is already illegal, once these sites are identified the government notify ISP's to block these sites...

This is why this issue is so sensitive, because they are claiming to introduce this new filter to do something that they can already do...
Which begs the question "what do they really want to do?"

I spose they dont like any sort of opposition, like MA who thinks poor people should have no voice in internet forums but is fine with multi=million dollar mining companies hijacking the Australian media....

I guess its ju8st another case of one rule for the little people, the citizens, and another rule for the big people, the corporations....
